Roland Interview

If you like a 6 dogs/ Kid Cudi vibe, Roland is your new favorite artist. He has such an amazing voice and his beats are very creative, I'm really in love with his sound. You should check out his songs like: Forza 4, rock the boat, astro boy, and dawg just to name a few of his best songs.

Where are you from and what age did you first make a connection to music?

I'm currently based near Atlanta right now, and i didn't really get into music until i was like 16. Even then it was a passing connection. Everything just kinda clicked with me musically maybe about a year ago.

What music did you listen to growing up?

I didn't really listen to music when i was younger. My parents played R&B stuff like Erykah Badu and D'angelo, but I think soundtracks and movie scores really stood out to me back then.

Musically, what are your biggest influences and who are your favorite artists to listen to currently?

Definitely Andre 3000 & Tyler, and they're just a couple of my influences. Except for my friends, i'm not really listening to rap at the moment because i kinda got bored with it. Just started getting into Hikaru Utada's full discography to branch out my tastes.

How did you make your rap name?

It's my real name. I'm lowkey tryna get a Roland sponsership, but i just want people to address me by my name. When people scream ROLAND i want it to be a statement in a way.

When did you start creating music and why?

I made my first song in like 2016 but i didn't take music seriously until like a year ago. I was still figuring stuff out, and I kinda feel like im still in that phase now. But I have a feeling im going to enter the next stage very soon.

How does your music differ from other artists?

Because my music isn't perfect. The way I make music now, whether it's in the writing or the way i record, I lay out all my flaws and thoughts very bluntly so everyone can see. I think my music comes off more genuine that way. I don't lie in my music & I think my fans and supporters appreciate that. At least I hope they do.

In what ways has your newest music changed from when you first started?

Lowkey, I've been overthinking a few of my newer songs that i've put out. Back then I was just making music for the fuck of it, but since I started getting a few plays i started getting insecure and chasing a high. But with the unreleased stuff i've made recently i've just been making music for me so yeah :^)

You make your own beats right? Whats your process for that?

There is no process honestly, I just go off how feel. Kind of a lame answer, but I'm not afraid to try new things so i never stick to one particular thing. I use a demo daw & don't use any fancy equipment or anything so there's no excuse to not make heater eaters for me.

When you're not doing music what do you do in your free time?

I draw a lot in my free time & I just watch a lot of bunch of anime like a fucking dork. But most of my energy right now is going toward music & clothes rn.

Any up and coming music we should know about?

Yeah, i got like 3 music video ideas in the stash right now and hella songs. Like HELLA SONGS. I kinda got my shit together now so I'm way more focused than I was. Expect something in the very very VERY near future ;^).
