A Lost Pilot
Connecting With Kil

You might've heard of Kil from his song "Hey" with Egovert. The audio has over a million plays on Elevator, and SoundCloud. The official music video drops today on the Elevator channel, so be on the lookout for that. He's got some crazy flows coming at you definitely give this guy a peep!
Where are you from and when did you first make a connection to creating music? And how long have you been doing music?
I’m from Northern Virginia, my first connection with music when I was a kid and became wildly obsessed with Michael Jackson as a musician and as an entertainer. Eventually, I discovered rappers like Eminem, Lil Wayne, 50 Cent, and started doing my research. I started writing in 4th grade, recorded my first song in 8th grade, started making music seriously in 2017.
Have you always been a producer?
I started producing seriously 2018, learned a lot from my older brother $ensei Neo. It’s an advantage because I can create songs the way I envision them in my mind because I’ve always had an ear for music. It’s also dope to help my other artist friends by helping them bring their ideas to life
You and Egovert are a pretty fire duo, when did y'all link up and what's it like when you guys make music together?
We met in 2015 on the damn bus LOL.
Literally we first met up as friends, getting into trouble, eventually, we got super close because of music. Whenever Ego and I are in the same room making music, it's a different type of energy because we share so much of the same ideas, and we both really have no boundaries. We balance each other out well. That's my brother forever.
How did you get your music heard?
I started hitting up YouTube channels to react to my music, and sent my music to a bunch of Underground YouTube channels, like Trap Vibes Forever and DarkTones, and started gaining a decent following. Eventually, got on platforms like ELEVATOR, and recently Rap Nation, and from there my music just spread everywhere.
Your song "Hey" with Egovert hit a million views on Elevator, did you ever think it would blow up that big?
I most definitely did not think it would blow up as much as it did,
I honestly thought it was going to just be another one of our songs that might end up hitting 100-200k max.
Can you run us through the process of making the "Hey" song? What was that studio session like?
The studio session was literally me facetiming Egovert while he was in India. Morteh had sent the beat and me and Ego started freestyling over the phone, and I heard him say, HEY! is your neck game sloppy? And from there we wrote the hook together, the rest was history. He recorded his vocals in his small ass room in India, sent me his vocals, I recorded mine.
What were you doing before the music? What made you want to focus on music?
I was honestly being a stupid kid, getting into trouble, I was really into skateboarding though. When I saw young kids like Lil Pump, XXXTENTACION, Joey Bada$$, Tyler the Creator blow up, it made me realize that I could do it too.
Any advice to someone trying to follow in your footsteps?
Remember that no one owes you anything. Learn to eat by yourself, you will end up broke and feel betrayed EVERY TIME depending on another man to feed you. And start as young as you can.
One thing you know as an artist now that you wish you knew when you were first starting out?
To learn to be self-sufficient early on, (learn to produce, engineer, record songs by yourself) and to invest more time in fewer songs, quality over quantity ALWAYS.
What's on the horizon for your music career in 2019?
Planning to release a lot more visuals, releasing “EGODEATH” ( EGOVERT & KIL collab tape), trying to expand my fan base, trying to work with bigger artists.
